Dec 8, 2013 - From unrealistic expectations to traditions to your screaming schedule as well as those annual holiday encounters with the in-laws and outlaws,.
When it came to music, I had two choices as a teenager: the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Dylan and the like, or our church organist playing an up-tempo version of “Blessed Assurance.” Thankfully, today’s young people—and not so young—enjoy a variety of Christian music representing everything from rock to rap. Recently I had the pleasure of speaking with, founding member and lead singer of the Grammy Award-winning Christian rock band,. In addition to touring and recording with Third Day, Mac also performs solo as a country artist. What interested me most, however, is how he and his wife, Aimee, after having three biological kids, decided to adopt (twice). It turns out that he and Aimee, who were high school sweethearts, talked about adopting even before they were married.
“Toward the end of high school we both volunteered to work with kids in an after-school program and talked about how neat it would be to have kids whose skin was a different color than ours,” Mac told me. “So after we had three kids and were thinking about adding another to our family, we decided to adopt.” Though he and Aimee were always open to adoption, he understands that many couples—especially men—approach it reluctantly. They worry about being too busy or having enough money or whether they will be able to love their adoptive child as much as they love their biological child. “If God is calling you to adopt, He will provide the means,” he explained.
Despite Mac’s busy schedule, he has an interesting way to make sure he gives his children the attention they need. And I love what this “child of the South”.
